Body image struggles are often talked about as though they’re purely about appearance, wanting to look a certain way, or feeling unhappy with a reflection in the mirror. In reality, body image is rarely just about the body. It’s often tangled up with control, self-worth, perfectionism, and the stories we’ve absorbed about what our bodies are supposed to look like or achieve.

For many people, disordered eating patterns develop as a way of managing difficult emotions or a sense of control when other parts of life feel unpredictable. Left unaddressed, these patterns can become deeply entrenched, affecting not just physical health but relationships, confidence and day to day functioning. Evidence-based approaches like Enhanced CBT for eating disorders (CBT-E) focus on more than just changing eating behaviours.

They help identify the underlying beliefs driving those behaviours, and build a healthier, more flexible relationship with food, body and self. If body image or eating concerns are something you or someone you love is navigating, individual therapy offers a steady, non-judgemental space to work through what’s really going on underneath.

Mackenzie Glover has particular training and interest in disordered eating and body image support.

Group therapy offers something individual sessions can't: the felt experience of being understood by someone who's actually been there too.
